Working with AP

Needing an alternative education provision for a learner is often sought at a time of great anxiety for the learner, their family and their current learning provision.

Elmtree are committed to ensuring referrals to us are processed as efficiently as possible, however, it is important to set the foundations for a successful placement with us and ensuring obligations are being met. This page gives an overview of concerns, priorities and expectations when working with Alternative Learning Provision, and how Elmtree supports its commissioning schools and teams to work together for the benefit of the learner.

What are OfSTED looking for when a school has learners attending ALP?

Due diligence has been undertaken to ensure safeguarding is robust, quality of education is high, ongoing monitoring of attendance and scrutiny of the impact of the provision.

At Elmtree

  • Site visits are required before a learner can begin a placement, we regularly have Trust and LA visits and have all necessary documentation and evidence available for due diligence. We also choose to be regularly audited to ensure the learners are getting every opportunity they deserve.
  • Commissioners have access to IConnect a system that provides evidence of engagement and learning from each and every session the learner attends, tracks attendance and allows communication with all key adults for the learner. Whilst it is the responsibility of the host school/commissioning team to collect attendance data, we support the process by logging on IConnect and contact is made for all non-attendance.
  • All policies are available here and insurance/H&S information is available on all sites. We also work with GSH Projects for all maintenance and site works – a fully vetted and insured contractor who have DBS’ in place for all staff working on our sites.
  • All learners have a bespoke learning plan linked to EHCP/School targets with 6 weekly reviews or more frequent if required.
  • Our sites have Thrive embedded, with all learners having a Thrive Assessment as part of their transition to Elmtree – this is also reviewed termly.

Our staff receive comprehensive induction training as well as ongoing training covering safeguarding, prevent, inclusion, positive behaviour support, Thrive, and specific areas of SEND as well as many more.

Our commissioning process includes, our referral form, collation of EHCP [if appropriate], contextual risk assessment, All About Me focusing on the learner and taster visits. Once the commission is agreed the learner is set up on IConnect and CPOMS.

Recruitment for Elmtree is undertaken by its sister company Elementa Support Services Ltd where all staff are Safer Recruitment trained and members of the REC, we maintain an online SCR and have support from Peninsula HR.
